Heading down to Marco Island for 3 weeks, any ideas on near shore fishing within 2 miles and or what type of bait to use? thanks for your help in advance.
Randy, sounds like a great time. The Marco Island area has some of the best fishing waters with some large artificial reefs near the coast. Try Turtle Cove [25-52-18 , 81-35-66] , Panther Key [25-49-71 , 81-32-48] or Indian Key [25-46-98 , 81-27-88]. The shallow waters around marco have Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, and Sea Trout. Live bait appears to be the preference among most.
Hi Randy. Glad you can make it . There are a ton of good spots within your 2 mile range. Live bait is always best, but if you just can't you can use frozen with almost as good results. I like the frozen squid chucks available at Marco River Marina, they have a nice selection of about everything you will need. The spots in the previous reply are good starts, and i,ve had good luck at the Marco 2 mi. Artificial reef the coords are 2555.434 -8146.236. For grouper i like a 3 oz sliding sinker on 50# florocarbon leader with a 4/0 5/0 circle hook. Good Luck
Thank you, I think I have seen the 2 mile reef on the charts I will also be using a Garmin 541 with a Southwest Florida vision chart. If fishing a reef how is it best done? should you jig at a certain depth or fish off bottom?
