Hello, my name is Randy and I live in NJ. I have many Years boating exp. in the NJ area, this yr. I purchased a Searay 225 weekender and plan to bring it down to Marco Island while on vacation in July and Aug of this year I am a little nervous about navigation around the island and routes around Caxambas pass and such and best route into Gulf from the Island I plan to purchase Noaa charts and did buy a new Garmin 541 chart-plotter any hints from someone local would be great, also if anyone could recomend inshore or off shore (withing a few miles of coast) fishing spots it would be helpful.
Hi Randy ,Welcome to this site. My name is Capt.Tony DiSarro and i run Tandem Charters out of Marco Is.In response to your fears about navigation, don"t worry. Your new Garmin should provide you with all the info you need to navigate safely. Practice a little with it prior to setting out and get comfortable with the controls. There are several routes you can take, study the charts for the best ones for you.Since i keep my Boat at Cedar Bay Yacht Club i mainly use the Marco River as my route out to the gulf. Both Caxambas pass ans the river are clearly marked with Nav aids . As for good spots.. on your garmin it should show you some artificial reefs that r close in enough for you(less than 5 miles) and many others. If u need more help you can contact me here. Also ck my website www.tandemcharters.com for up to date weather, tides, moon phases and a handy calendar to see what species are biting and when. Take care and tight lines. Good Luck with the new boat.
Hello Joel,
Thank you for your reply, I have been down to Marco Island, we were down for 3 weeks in July. We did bring our boat to Marco I had a great time boating in the area was so nice very different then N,J we went into Gulf and caught a few fish, the boating was hard in the 10,000 islands the water became very shallow very fast but we made it and enjoyed ourselves. We are hoping to be moving from NJ to the Englewood Fl. area by end of next Summer, we just love it down there. Thank you so much keep in touch.
